NiMH batteries: Loaded with excellent recharging capabilities
Nickel metal hydride or NiMH batteries are rechargeable batteries and are environmentally friendly batteries. If you are thinking of replacing old batteries, NiMH rechargeable batteries are the best choices. These rechargeable batteries have no memory effect unlike Nickel-cadmium batteries. This means that NiCd batteries have to be completely drained out before recharging. Or else, batteries would face low voltage at that very point where the battery began recharging. Nickel Cadmium batteries have cadmium as main chemical composition. They can be dangerous if disposed, causing severe air, water and land pollution. Instead of disposing NiCd batteries, it is advisable to recycle it for further use.
NiMH rechargeable batteries have different charge capacities. For instance, AA NiMH rechargeable batteries are rated with 1100 - 2800 milliamp hours whereas; AAA batteries are measured between 850 - 1000 milliamp hours. NiMH rechargeable battery’s life can be enhanced by regular recharging. Don’t let the batteries fully discharge. AA and AAA NiMH batteries have 500 – 1000 recharge cycles. It can also depend upon their use and discharge rate before you recharge them again.
The one demerit of Nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries is they discharge at a faster rate. Discharging at the rate of 0.5-1% per day makes it useless for low drain equipments such as remote controls, clocks and smoke detectors. Meanwhile, they are superb for digital cameras, portable game consoles, PDAs, CD players, MP3 players, toys and other high-drain devices that need to be frequently recharged. NiMH batteries have acquired prominent place in most household applications with excellent recharging capabilities
