Bungie’s new IP deal info

Bungie has recently revealed that Halo: Reach will be the final game of legendary series. Moreover, they have already announced that a new publishing deal for “non-Halo game” is in final stages. Multiplayer designed for Bungie, Lars Bakken broke the news when talking to Eurogamer TV. Bakken revealed that rumors about new publisher for non-Halo IP are circulating internally.

Experts believe that Sony is one of the few publishers that can afford a deal with Bungie.  But, the deal was unlikely as the studio was previously engaged to their rival Microsoft. Bethesda Games director Ashley Cheng has expressed that the cost of handling Bungie’s next title will be huge and not all producers will be able to afford such a deal. Other likely publishers are Activision, Ubisoft, EA and of course, Bethesda.

Currently working on Halo 3: ODST, Bungie is expected to continue its Halo-related work till release of Halo: Reach sometime in 2010. ODST is slated for release on September 22. Bungie will be ‘free to do anything’ after Reach as that will be their last Halo game. Microsoft is keen to extend Halo further, but this is unlikely as Bungie has already announced a new IP.

Bungie has not revealed any information about their new project. They have allegedly been working on the project for quite some time now and experts believe that the game would be of action/shooter genre. It wouldn’t be a big surprise if Bungie goes on with Halo-like games if not actually Halo.
