General meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month (except December) at 7:00 p.m. at
Pacific Palisades Women’s Club 901 Haverford Ave. Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
Meetings usually start with a half hour session devoted to the culture of orchids, followed by a main program featuring a speaker selected from various areas of expertise, such as commercial growers, non-commercial growers and scientists, who generally show slides to illustrate their presentations. Prior to the meeting members can participate in a dinner with the speaker, at a local restaurant. After the main presentation there is a refreshment break, during which members and guests mingle, and view the displays brought by members for ribbon judging at the Plant Forum. New members may ask questions at our "Beginners' Corner" about problems in growing, bid at the silent auction, buy tickets for the "plant table" raffle, and/or borrow books from the extensive MOS library. After the refreshment break the results of the judging are announced and explicated. Members can then ask particular questions about the award-winning plants directly from the persons who cultivated them. The plant raffle which ends the meetings, is always eagerly awaited as there always are very special plants to be won. For more information, e-mail crugge@msn.com or call 310-459-7086. Additional parking at meetings is available behind the Women's Club in the lower parking lot on Temescal. If the upper lot is full, exit the lot, and keep making right turns around the block, also turning right on Temescal. Enter the lower lot from Temescal Canyon Drive; there is a stairway and gate up to the club house. You may also park along Temescal, and enter through the lower lot and rear stairs. Please leave the first parking spots on the right (in the upper lot as you enter) for the speaker, and for members bringing plants for the Plant Forum. |
