The Malibu Orchid
Society is all about orchids, but also we are about gathering to share
in orchid knowledge and socialize with friends, which is why we serve
refreshments. We need to talk food - food, glorious food! Members
have been bringing their food donations for over 40 years - wonderful
goodies, some homemade, others store bought, and even some indiscernible
snack creations brought in by bachelors.
But last month no
one brought a thing. Cec Schulman scrambled to the market to buy
cookies for the refreshment table. Board members surmised at our latest
meeting that it might be time to dispense with refreshments, if members
do not show the initiative in providing refreshments and help with
serving.
We lack a
refreshment chair; the new reminder post cards aren’t working; and the
poor excuse for coffee, which represented my attempt to make coffee at
recent meetings, has some members recalling similar “coffee” served in
the military.
We will be
scaling back on refreshments this month, and await feedback and new
developments or suggestions. I hope this plea will serve as an impetus
for members to come forth and volunteer, and that it will also serve as
a reminder to bring in your food when it is your turn.
See you on the 19th,
